At CoogTV every worker is a University of Houston student, from executive producers to camera operators

It’s the only student-run media organization at the University of Houston and consist of five different branches including: News, Sports, Entertainment, Life & Arts, and Media Team. However, this group of students have faced challenges that nobody could have prepared them for.

The Covid-19 pandemic took everyone out of studio, but the show must go on and taught the team valuable lessons for when they returned. Executive producer JoeMichael Coronado and sports producer Lindsey Jimenez stated the time where a majority of meetings were virtual was tough, but you wouldn’t know that by their numbers.Since coming out of the pandemic, CoogTV has seen its best viewership ever.

Comparing it to other universities in the state of Texas, CoogTV has the title for most viewed video and regularly sees videos eclipse over 2500 viewers. Over the past year CoogTV has pushed out 163 videos across various media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. That takes up a lot of time, but with over 300 members CoogTV is as strong as ever.

Coronado and Jimenez will soon graduate meaning another student will have to take their place. It has given them an opportunity to teach and guide students through lessons they once had to learn. Despite their departure date on the horizon both Coronado and Jimenez are focused on the future of CoogTV. They are focusing on molding the next crop of students not only for positions at CoogTV, but for their careers. They hope CoogTV can continue to grow and surpass the new heights they reached. CoogTV continues to spread its reach on social media and the move to the Big 12 conference has brought on more excitement surrounding the university.

There is no shortage of stories to be told at CoogTV, from the men’s basketball team ranking number one in the nation to UH scientists attempting to find a fentanyl vaccine to combat the opioid epidemic.
